Interview: Jordan Haney

Hi! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

My name is Jordan Haney. I am a student at California State University, Northridge studying Marketing with minors in Economics and Finance. I found my passion for marketing in high school which is when I began to immerse myself in the field. I am a very focused individual and find learning a very valuable part of my life which also encourages me to keep growing and seeking opportunities.

How did you find your way into design?

In high school I took a web design and graphic design class which introduced me to Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. These programs and the possibilities within went well with my love for marketing as I got to see and practice marketing ideas coming to life. Currently, I work at a brand and creative agency, IntersectLA, which is full of amazing creatives. IntersectLA is run by students at California State University, Northridge working with clients both on- and off-campus building brands and campaigns to grow them. Most of my day is now spent with designers, illustrators, photographers, videographers, etc. which I love to be around and continually learn from.

What has your experience been as an emerging designer?

Answering this as a marketer, my experience so far has been very informative and preparing. I am learning how dedicated I am to my field as well as some areas I need to grow in to be more successful in my career. Regarding the marketing industry, I have noticed that it is both an objective and imaginative field, meaning, to succeed you will need the right combination of creative and critical thinking.

What keeps you passionate and inspired about design and creativity?

The constant innovation and growth. In my eyes, this is how we grow as a society. Products improve, ways of doing things become more clear, and the envelope is pushed for the next to solve a problem.

What keeps me passionate and inspired while working in marketing specifically, are the opportunities. Opportunities to make something new, opportunities to make something better, and opportunities to do something the best.
